UNDERSTANDING NEPTUNE: THE PLANET OF INFLUENCE

Discovered in 1846 Neptune had its first “birthday” in 2010, so from a perspective of human understanding we’re still getting to know each other. Neptune’s language is not that of social discourse or politics. It is the language of influence that comes directly from the unconscious and is best expressed, understood, and incorporated into consciousness through a symbolic language or discipline such as art, images, math, rituals and of course astrology.

Deborah will discuss – in surprisingly specific examples—both the personal and collective impacts of Neptune in astrological interpretations, how we travel hand in hand with its harmony and madness as we navigate Neptune’s hazy path from the unconscious to consciousness. She will also include the ever present inspirations of Neptune’s surprising and often specific role in public policy from war, to fads, to pharmaceuticals (a fad about to fade), the development of the fields of psychology and trauma science and more.

PUMPING NEW LIFE INTO THE LANGUAGE OF ASTROLOGY

The language of astrology can act as either a conduit or barrier to communicating the benefits that astrology holds for people. Modern astrology has been strongly impacted by cognitive psychology and its clinical objectifications. These can be helpful as long as they don’t cause the unwitting astrologer to slip into describing deep human experiences as something you’d only pick up with tweezers.

Deborah Smith Parker will toss the tweezers and give a lively and entertaining presentation about reviving and applying astrology’s rich language of images. Using examples from literature, art and religion she will track the centuries of progressive sanitizing and weakening in our culture of the expressions of the gods and planetary archetypes. She will illustrate how we can rescue the power of those expressions to help our clients better understand the information their charts have for them.

PLUTO & THE CHART OF THE UNITED STATES: UNDERSTANDING THE SHIFTING POWER RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE PEOPLE, THE GOVERNMENT AND CORPORATIONS

Pluto has recently returned to its natal sign of Capricorn for the first time in our nation’s history but won’t reach its natal position of 27 degrees until 2022.  A country with Pluto in Capricorn has a power base that without intervention by the people and their advocates defaults to corporations and their influence on government.

In astrology Pluto works at a global level eventually giving the masses what they need to know to correct power inequities. First, however, he puts everyone through a long slow roll giving everyone time to feel the impact of power imbalances related to the sign he occupies. His intent isn’t to kill us individually although it can sure feel like it—and at times we wish he would. Instead he exposes what power inequities are killing us through collective thought and action, relative to the sign he’s in, ultimately providing opportunities for rebalancing power.

What will happen when Pluto reaches his natal position? Astrology helps us look forward supported by looking backward at the progression of events fueled by Pluto. This eye opening presentation traces Pluto through each astrological sign to show the shifting power dynamics in historical context, who is impacted, and what corrective measures are/were taken and implications for the future. Both astrologers and non-astrologers will find value in this presentation.

TRAUMA, HEALING AND THE LEO/AQUARIUS POLARITY: CHANGING LEAD INTO GOLD

More people than we realize have survived childhood sexual and other violent  trauma, a minimum of 20% according to conservative estimates by experts. Yet this trauma remains largely invisible in culture and to many astrologers. However, Deborah Smith Parker has found that percentage to hold in the charts of those who seek her for a consultation which is confirmed by those clients once in the consultation. How does she know that? How can other astrologers apply this useful information? How can this be used in the consultation?

This presentation covers (1) a description of trauma and the history of its developing science still in infancy; (2) How the elements of trauma, its dissociation and re-association, and its healing are contained within the archetype of the Leo/Aquarius polarity; (3) Role of outer planets; and (4) Sample charts & suggestions for identifying trauma in charts and utilizing this information in the consultation.

BUT SIRIUSLY, FOLKS–THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY OF ASTROLOGY AND DOGS

Do you know which dogs from which signs are the fastest sprinters? The greatest show offs? The perimeter sentries? If you use astrology as it is applied to human behavior to answer these questions you will probably be incorrect. Astrological archetypes apply to the instinctive levels of consciousness of animals as well as to humans but not quite in the same way. Dogs are not furry little people so we need to use a different lens. Deborah Smith Parker will help us see through this new lens and subsequently bring more understanding to our relationships with our dogs.

Deborah has completed over 15 years of astrological research on dogs through observation and interviews with hundreds of dog owners as well as extensive discussions and interviews with breeders and trainers.  Not only is her information useful and intriguing with many surprises, but highly entertaining. Dogs provide great theater. Her results will be published in her book on the topic that will be released in 2014.

THE CHRISTMAS STAR AND OTHER BIBLE STORIES–TOLD FROM AN ASTROLOGER’S POINT OF VIEW

Astrological references are throughout the Bible, but if you don’t know astrology those references are invisible to you. For instance, where did the Star of David come from? How many people actually saw the Star of Bethlehem and who were they? Even though some people think that astrology and religion are antithetical to each other, they are entwined in the same ancient and sacred traditions and emanating from the same beginnings. As it says in Genesis, “God said let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from night; and let them be for signs and seasons. . .”
